Coaches are an Important Part of the Game

Coaches Needed

Coaches are some of the most important adults in our athletes’ lives! Our volunteer coaches are the incredible individuals that make our league run smoothly! If you are interested in being a positive role model for the youth in our community (no matter your current skill level), we welcome you to register as a coach when registering your athlete!

Free Training and Clinics

AYSA is offering two free coach clinics this July for AYSA Fall League coaches. All new and returning coaches are welcome to attend. The first portion will be an introduction for your age group and then time will be spent on how to run a practice. There will be time for questions at the end. If you are unable to make a clinic but are still looking for help as a new coach, contact the AYSA office.

Ball Skills and Drills

I never played soccer… I can’t demonstrate ball skills!

Yes you can! The coach demonstrates the move slowly in easy to copy steps. You can always recruit a college or high school player to show the moves at speed. Spend 15 minutes every practice on individual skills and don’t be put off because it is difficult, repetition is the key to player development.

Concussions in Youth Sports

A concussion is a brain injury and can be quite serious.  The US Dept. of Health Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has prepared some excellent resources to help parents and players identify the signs and symptoms of concussions, and what to do if you think you or a family member may have a concussion.

All AYSA coaches and referees are required to complete concussion training before they can take part in games or practices.  This is also a great video for parents or players. It will help you recognize the signs of concussion and provide information on how to deal with a player who may have a concussion. You will find lots of information and resources on the CDC website.
